Efren Reyes was born in 1954 in Angeles City, Philippines. When he was 4-5 years old he moved to Manila with his family.

In Manila, he worked as a billiard attendant at his uncle’s billiard hall. Where he began learning various cue games. Since he wasn’t tall enough to reach the pool table, he played standing on Coca-Cola cases that he moved around.

At night when he dreamed of playing pool, the pool table was his bed. Reyes is often referred to as Bata, which is Tagalog for ‘kid’ because there was another great pool player named Efrain when he was young. To distinguish between the two, he was called Efrain Bata.

Professional Life:

Efren Reyes started playing billiards in the 1960s. He got the opportunity to participate in important events and tournaments. He was part of the Philippine team that competed in the 1978 RP-Japan Pocket Billiards Tournament.

Efren Reyes won against Pepito Dancer in the finals of the 1983 Philippine Professional Pocket Billiards Championship.
