Tehran (Tasnim) – Iran’s Persepolis football team will host Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nasr in the 2023-24 AFC Champions League at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran.
Iranian media previously reported that Persepolis would likely compete with Al-Nasr in the United Arab Emirates or Qatar.
But AFC has released the Matchweek 1 fixtures, with Persepolis hosting their rivals at home.
Persepolis travel to Doha to play Al Duhail at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium on October 2 and face Tajikistan’s Independence at the Azadi Stadium on October 24.
Persepolis FC is a club based in Iran. And now they have a formidable group stage opening challenge to face against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nasr side. Last season, Persepolis clinched the title of their domestic league, the Persian Gulf Pro League, and will now focus on their Group E continental match. After reaching the 2018 and 2020 AFC Champions League finals, the Iranian outfit are still without a trophy on the continental stage.
Following the announcement of Nasr’s signing as “Mr. Champions League fans were anxious to know when Ronaldo would step into the Asian version of the Champions League. As Nasr was not in last season’s edition, we now have Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2023-24 AFC. The group stage of the Champions League will see them open their action against Iranian outfit Persepolis FC. Al Nasr qualified for the group stage of the 2023-24 AFC Champions League after defeating Shabab Al Ahli Dubai in the play-offs last month.
