He is an American former volleyball player, coach, and broadcast announcer. In the 1980s, Karch Kiraly was a central part of the American national team that won gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games.
Karch Kiraly is the only athlete to win Olympic medals of any color in both indoor and beach volleyball categories. He played volleyball for the UCLA Bruins in college. Where his team under head coach Al Scates won three national championships.

Kiraly grew up in Santa Barbara, California. Moreover, he started playing volleyball at the age of six with the encouragement of his father Laszlo Kiraly.
He was a member of the Hungarian Junior National Team before fleeing the country during the 1956 Hungarian National Uprising. At the age of 11, Kiraly teamed up with his father to take part in his first beach volleyball tournament.
Kiraly attended Santa Barbara High School, where he was a member of the boys’ university volleyball team. His father played a key role in creating a boys’ volleyball program at the school.
In his senior year, Kiraly’s high school team remained undefeated, winning the CIF SS by defeating Laguna Beach High School in the title game in 1978, and Kiraly was named the Sectional Player of the Year.
